Bachan's Take Out sits comfortably in Monterey Park along Garfield Avenue, offering a straightforward and casual vibe for folks looking for quick, satisfying Japanese and Hawaiian flavors. This family-run spot is all about approachable plates that pack in familiar island flavors, making it a natural stop for local workers, families, and anyone craving teriyaki-driven meals without fuss.

The atmosphere here is unpretentious and functional, with a clean dining area that fits well for groups or families, complete with plenty of seating and even booster seats for kids. Parking can fill up during busy lunch and dinner times, but nearby street parking helps ease that pinch. The setup encourages calling ahead to beat the line, especially during peak hours, which is common given its popularity as a reliable takeout destination.

The menu is diverse but sticks close to classic Hawaiian plate lunch territory with Japanese influences—think teriyaki chicken and beef short ribs, poke-inspired dishes like furikake crusted ahi with wasabi aioli, and local favorites such as kalua pork and loco moco. Portions are generous, often leaving diners more than full, and prices reflect a good value when considering the quantity and heartiness of the meals. The addition of things like chicken taquitos with guacamole or a teriyaki avocado burger adds some casual variety beyond the plate lunches.

This is a spot where the food serves as the main event—sauces are abundant and well-seasoned, and the meats tend to be tender, though occasionally the grilling can err just a bit on the overdone side. Everything arrives quickly, ideal for those on a lunch break or grabbing dinner to take home. The vibe inside is straightforward, no-frills, focused on solid, tasty food rather than ambiance or fancy presentation.

  • Best for anyone wanting filling, straightforward Japanese-Hawaiian comfort food in a casual, family-friendly setting
  • Works well for takeout but also accommodates families or groups who want to dine in without the fuss of a full-service restaurant
  • Calling ahead for orders can save wait time, especially on busy weekdays or evenings
  • The location draws regulars who appreciate consistent portions and local-style Hawaiian food on this side of Monterey Park

While it doesn’t aim to impress with atmosphere, Bachan’s Take Out delivers a practical, dependable option for those seeking the mix of Hawaiian plate lunch and Japanese flavors along Garfield Ave, filling a niche much appreciated by neighborhood locals and anyone familiar with the island-inspired comfort food tradition.

The front dining area look clean no bathrooms. But you really can’t tell how clean unless you can look into the kitchen. Always tasty Japanese take out. Today they partially over cook our ahi. Salmon plate was good. They have these chicken taquitos that we always get. Usually call ahead for faster service. All in all good food good service friendly. Funny you spend $35 and they still charge you for extra Teri sauce. Wow !!!

New location. Small family business. Tasty Hawaiian food. Good seat quality. Good seat quantity.. Okay price. I believe the large doesn't seem worth the price difference; a scoop of rice + a 1 (or 2) bite salad for about $3 more?!?! I guess I'll blame it on inflation. I recommend the food here.

I remember I use to have this for lunch when I used to work near their old location in Rosemead. Haven’t had them in about 8-9 years and this place still taste amazing!! You get a little more food for the price which is well worth it. I’ll be back again when I’m in town! Appreciate the old memories and delicious food!

Nice Teriyaki spot. The chicken was good. They offer 3 different meal sizes. I love that. Great price! They also sell Dole Whip! I recommend looking at menu in my photos And calling in to order. I came for dinner during their soft opening at this new location and it was busy.. I can only imagine it will only get more packed, cuz we all know how much we needed a new teriyaki spot in this side of town. I wish they would maybe increase the rice to meat ratio. My kids and I noticed that it was a very small scoop of rice.

Very filling plates! The meat was tender. The sauces were good and aplenty. Portions are fair for the price. New location next to Bomb chicken on Garfield. Parking lot seems to get busy during peak times but there’s a neighborhood and the main streets you can always park along as well. Inside has plenty of seating, esp great for big groups or families. Lots of booster seats and high chairs available. No outdoor seating. It’s a casual local vibe here. Salmon wasn’t over cooked. Beef was flavorful. Soba was refreshing on a hot day! The soba sauce was a little lemon-y which I loved! A medium plate was more than enough for me. I wish they opened later because this would be a great dinner option. Great lunch option if you are nearby!

We had take-out orders but Hawaiian/Polynesian theme Indoor dining is also available. Prices are reasonable and the food was good, fresh, and prepared to order. We waited less than 10 minutes to get our food. It’s good to see the menu posted on the front was outside of the restaurant.
